February 1, 2012: Day One

Today was a very good day I would say. I met a lot of families today. One family in particular that really touched me. Sarah and her 9 year old daughter. They were fairly new to the "scene" after only being homeless for about a week. When I asked her how she got to where she is now, Sarah opened up to me about how she had just lost her job. The father of Hope, her daughter, was no where in the picture. She had been a single mom raising her daughter as best as she could. Sarah and Hope got evicted from their apartment and have been shelter hopping ever since. I could not help but feel remorse for Sarah. This is a mothers worst nightmare. Sarah does not have any family in Seattle and is basically alone. Sarah has been job hunting since day one of her homeless adventure while Hope is in school. Sarah is very hopeful that their situation will change very soon. I believe that with the willpower and strength that Sarah has she will do good for her and her daughter very soon. This week has taught me that even in very difficult situations, it is important to stay positive. Sarah was a very strong woman and mother and she gives me strength. In all that she has been through, she was never once negative. I pray for her.
